Universal Single Payer Health Care
It is better to set the adgenda by being FOR something,
rather than being generally ideological. People respond
better to concrete proposals that they can see will help them.
Concrete proposals also are "offensive" rather than "defensive"
in a debate. They make something that the opposition must respond
to. They help set the adgenda. They make people talk about your
thing, rather than the opposition's thing.
This is partly why Democrats have been so pathetic - they propose
nothing, they let the enemy set the adgenda. They are passive.
They don't even think that the enemy is the enemy. Actually -
the Democratic Party must remake itself, or be hollowed out.
The rot taken out, the deadwood. People who stand for something
must be put in their place.
The Democrats should put forth a Big Idea. That big idea - or
at least one of them - must be (at last!) Universal Single-Payer
Health Care. I mean, really - can this be more obvious? It's
just a good idea. It would be administered by an agency of the
government. This would reduce administrative costs greatly, and
make everything more efficient. The rising costs of health care
that threatens to destroy so much of our economy would be
stemmed. Drug costs could be negotiated. People could get care
before needing to go to expensive and inefficient emergency rooms.
The Dems should push this, and talk about it. A lot. They should
not stop talking about it. Universal Single Payer Health Care
should become the answer to all their questions, until they achieve
it, then the next item on the adgenda should become the
answer to all their questions.
Hey Democrats, listen:
Become a party of ideas.
Shun the wimpy image.
Stand for something.
